Novo Nordisk is undertaking a sweeping restructuring as competition in the obesity drug market intensifies. The company plans to cut approximately 9,000 roles globally - around 5,000 of them in Denmark - and is seeking supplier discounts to reduce costs, with the measures expected to deliver annualised savings of DKK 8 billion by the end of 2026.

At the same time, Novo Nordisk announced it will slash the U.S. list prices of Wegovy, Ozempic, and Rybelsus by up to 50%, setting a unified price of $675 per month starting January 1, 2027. The steep price cuts are clearly aimed at defending market share but will weigh heavily on revenue: the company reported full-year 2025 sales of DKK 309.1 billion, up 10% at constant exchange rates, yet it expects both sales and operating profit to decline between 5% and 13% at constant exchange rates in 2026. For shareholders, the combination of a major workforce reduction, significant price concessions, and a projected earnings decline signals that the company sees the competitive pressure as substantial and is moving aggressively to reposition its cost base before the pricing change takes effect.
