🚨$GOOGL | The European Commission gave Google quite a slap today🤒

👉What's going on: The European Commission claims Google violated the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in two ways:

1️⃣ In Search, it favored its own services (shopping, hotels, transport, sports) – giving them better rankings and visual elements over competitors.

2️⃣ In Google Play, it prevented app developers from freely informing users about cheaper alternatives outside the store (e.g., their own website).

For the first violation, it got a fine of €460M, for the second €430M. Google has 60 days to fix things, otherwise it faces additional sanctions of up to 5% of global turnover. It can appeal.👆

This news comes at a sensitive time – the EU is currently negotiating with the US on tariffs and trade, and the Trump administration has long criticized DMA and DSA as regulation harming American tech firms.

Similar fines have already hit Amazon, Apple, and AliExpress. The DMA has a clear goal: to prevent giants from turning their own platform into a playground just for themselves. The question is whether €890M really hurts Google, or if it's just the "cost of doing business". It will be interesting to see if this becomes part of broader EU-US trade negotiations.
