Preliminary EU tariffs on Chinese electric cars
Preliminary duties:
- EU plans to impose preliminary duties on Chinese electric cars
- Tariff range: 17.4% to 37.6%
- Effective from Friday
Target of the measures:
- To prevent damage to EU industry
Final decision:
- Deadline for final duty decision: 2 November
- Interested parties can express their views until 18 July
Commission report:
- Confirmation of preliminary findings with possible adjustments expected
- Definitive duties subject to approval by EU Member States
- Definitive duties may be in force for up to five years
Scrutiny and legal challenges:
- Producers who evade duties may be subject to scrutiny
- Legal challenges can be lodged with the European Court of Justice and the World Trade Organisation
- This process can take more than a year
The EU again...they want to support domestic production, I understand that, but I think people want foreign electric cars (at least in the current situation).
