🎮 Microsoft and AMD join forces!
Microsoft $MSFT last week announced a strategic partnership with AMD $AMD to shape the future of the Xbox platform across home consoles and cloud services. The goal is to develop next-generation custom chips that will take gaming to a whole new level.
🧠 From hardware to ecosystem:
XboxPresident Sarah Bond made it clear: Xbox will no longer be tied to one device.
The future platform will be: open, connected and portable, built on a foundation of Windows as a gaming operating system, expanded to support third-party stores and a hybrid model of gaming through Game Pass + cloud.
First steps:
Together with ASUS , Microsoft unveiled Xbox Ally and Ally X - portable consoles that allow gamers to access their library anywhere on the go, including streaming gaming from the cloud.
📈 Xbox as part of a wider business:
The More Personal Computingsegment , where Xbox falls, generated over $13.3 billion in revenue in Q3.
Xbox'sgaming and content services alone grew year-over-year by 8 %.
Game Pass maintains its position as one of the most important subscriptions in the gaming industry ($9.99-$19.99/month).
🏭 Microsoft layoffs:
While Microsoft is investing in hardware and AI while optimizing its internal structure, it has already laid off about 6,000 employees this year , and according to Bloomberg, another wave of layoffs is expected after the fiscal year closes in July.
What do you think of Microsoft's video game division? Do you prefer Xbox or Sony's PlayStation?
It's a fine sector, but I've never been interested in the video game field.
Great news and fortunately I have AMD in my portfolio. Xbox doesn't strike me as some cool thing that will bring in the big bucks though.
