Anthropic is preparing to go public, and I think it will be one of the most watched IPOs in recent years.
It's the company behind Claude, and if the IPO succeeds, it will be one of the first cases where we can directly buy a large AI company that is mainly built on its own models. OpenAI is not yet public, and xAI is currently part of SpaceX, so Anthropic would be quite unique in this regard.
There's talk of a valuation of over $2 trillion. On the other hand, Anthropic is growing brutally fast and is gradually becoming profitable, so it's not just a story built on the boom.
Until now, one could mainly get exposure to AI on the stock market through companies like Nvidia, Microsoft, Google, or Amazon. With Anthropic, however, it would be a much more direct bet on the AI models themselves and on Claude continuing to grow significantly.
And that's where I think the biggest question will be: how much are investors willing to pay for a company that could be one of the winners in AI, but at the same time may already have an insane valuation at the time of its IPO?
Would you go into Anthropic at the IPO, or would $2 trillion be too much for you?
