I don't know if it's the right thing to do, but at least it's an attempt. Disney is trying to reverse the number of declining subscribers in India by offering free cricket on mobile phones.

The company acquired Indian streaming service Hotstar when it paid $71 billion for some of 21st Century Fox's global assets in 2019. With the rights to stream the Indian Premier League (IPL), the world's richest cricket league.

The streaming operations in India, which were the world's largest by number of users last year, posted a loss of $41.5 million on revenue of $390 million for the year to March 2022, the latest results released.

Targeting one of the largest markets is quite a logical move. I like that, but the question is whether they will actually succeed...I continue to hold the company's shares, so some growth would definitely be nice :)

I didn't know cricket was played to such a high level, if people are watching it, it could definitely attract new users.

So if there's a lot of watching, it might be a good move. But it certainly won't save them.
