🌟 Onsemi's big investment in the Czech Republic: a game changer for the semiconductor industry!
US chip manufacturing giant Onsemiconductor $ON+0.4% has announced a historic investment of up to $2 billion in a Czech semiconductor manufacturing plant. This project represents the largest single foreign direct investment in our country and is a significant step towards strengthening European self-sufficiency in critical technologies.
The new silicon carbide semiconductor manufacturing facility will be located in the eastern Rožnov pod Radhoštěm. This material, although more expensive than traditional silicon chips, offers automotive manufacturers superior energy efficiency, lightweight and durability.
The move comes at a time when the COVID-19pandemic and growing tensions with China have highlighted the need for Europe to be independent of Asian supplies. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala described the investment as "the largest of its kind in modern history", The plan is to multiply the plant's production, which is now up to10 million chips a day.
