Lyft introduces AI for customer support in partnership with Amazon
Lyft announced that it has partnered with Alphabet-backed startup Anthropic and Amazon to integrate artificial intelligence into its customer support. The new AI tools are expected to significantly speed up the handling of customer requests and streamline the operation of the ridesharing platform.

Lyft $LYFT is using Anthropic's Claude AI model through Amazon's generative AI platform Bedrock. According to the company, the technology has been able to reduce the average time to resolve customer requests by 87%. On a daily basis, the AI can resolve thousands of queries, which significantly relieves human operators.
While the deployment of advanced AI in customer service raises concerns about job losses, Lyft assures that human support will remain a key part of the process. The company stresses that AI will primarily be used to quickly resolve simple queries, and in the case of more complex issues, the customer will be handed over to a live operator.
"We see AI as an opportunity to improve the quality and efficiency of our operations, not as a tool to cut jobs," said Jason Vogrinec, executive vice president of platforms at Lyft.
Experts say a problem with generative AI may be its tendency to produce incorrect or biased responses, limiting its ability to fully replace human operators. Therefore, Lyft plans to keep the handling of more complex cases, such as security issues, fraud or account deactivation, in the hands of humans.
Through its partnership with Anthropic, Lyft also plans to further develop AI tools that will benefit customers and drivers alike. Additionally, the AI startup will train Lyft engineers on the technology, allowing for further innovation within the platform.
