Palo Alto shares reacted by falling more than 5 % in two days, which is not unusual for large acquisitions. In contrast, CyberArk shares jumped by more than 13 %.
🔍 Strategic reasons for the acquisition
Identity as a key element of security - At a time when attackers are moving to identity forgery/theft, access and permission management, identity protection is seen as a key element of security.
🧠 The advent of generative AI a AI agents dramatically increases the complexity and risks in identity management. That's why identity security is so important.
📈 CEO Nikesh Arora made it clear:
"We believe the time is right to enter this market, disrupt it and prepare a platform that will solve the security challenges of the next 12-18 months."
The Palo Alto Vision
Palo Alto is no longer just a firewall. The acquisitions of Talon, Dig Security, Protect AI and now CyberArk show the strategy: to build a platform that covers the entire security space, including identity, data and AI.
CyberArk is not a start-up, but a quality player, publicly traded for over a decade, with technologies that are used in the largest corporations and government agencies.
But in a world where Google paid $32 billion for a cloud startup Wiz, it's clear that security and AI will continue to be a major investment area in the years to come.
What do you think of this company? Is this acquisition expensive, or is Palo Alto acting at the right time to maintain its market leadership and competitive position?
Acquisitions are great and it will definitely help the company. The stock may fall now, but it will rise in the long run.
$PANW and $CRWD are the best companies in the industry. I want to wait a little longer for better prices and then I'll start adding $PANW.
