A lot of people wonder why Berkshire buys $GOOG and not $MSFT ...

Berkshire doesn't buy the best company. It buys the biggest gap between price and value.

$MSFT has better cloud growth, better AI monetization, and a cleaner story. And it trades at ~30x forward. $GOOG has search, TPU, YouTube, Waymo. And it trades at ~19x.

Berkshire doesn't ask 'Which company is better?'.

Berkshire asks 'Which great company is at a good price?'.

Agreed. To me, Google is the better company too :) It's my largest position and their business is truly top level. I just think Google's cloud is growing faster than $MSFT's because it's smaller overall, for now. Although in absolute numbers Microsoft or Amazon are growing faster, Google leads in percentage growth.

If by “forward multiples” you mean PE, then be careful. At Google, a large amount of USD 24bn was added to FY2026 earnings, arising from the revaluation of non-marketable investments (probably largely Anthropic). After adjusting for these NRI, Alphabet's PE is around 33, so higher than Microsoft (26.8). Forward would be swept away

And the FCF picture looks even darker for Alphabet. In the last reported quarter, it fell into a deep loss of -USD 16bn (per quarter!!!). Microsoft's FCF remains positive and even grew.

Of course, analysis shouldn't rest on a few numbers, but GOOG really isn't cheaper than MSFT 🤷

I hold both companies in my portfolio, but I have a larger position in $GOOG because I like the company a lot more and its price was really cheap for me earlier, so I accumulated heavily.

Is Cloud MSFT growing faster than Google? I really don't know.

I'm not surprised they're buying. I see a bright future in it and they'll have a profitable company. That's why I keep buying whenever the price is below $160.

Exactly, do you have $GOOG shares in your portfolio?
