Lucid $LCID today announced a partnership with Bolt. In Europe, they plan to gradually deploy up to 25,000 robotaxis.

The cars are to be built on Lucid's platform, and autonomous driving will use Nvidia technology. Bolt also says it wants to have up to 100,000 autonomous vehicles by 2035, so if that works out, it could become quite a large fleet.

For Lucid, I think this is mainly a chance to show that it doesn't have to be just a maker of expensive electric cars. The company has technically excellent cars, but it still sells relatively few units and at the same time burns a lot of money. This could open up a completely different source of demand.

Of course, the question remains how quickly robotaxis will actually get going in Europe. Regulation, infrastructure, and the reliability of autonomous driving itself could all slow things down considerably. But even so, for Lucid it's quite important to have a specific partner and a concrete plan for tens of thousands of cars.

The stock reacted to the news with a gain of about 5%.

Is anyone following Lucid? And do you think robotaxis could help the company get out of its current rather difficult situation?
