Palantir has earned a reputation as one of the best investment titles in the artificial intelligence (AI) space, with its stock up a whopping 320% since the start of 2024. Despite this success, however, the company's current valuation raises questions as to whether it is overvalued relative to its fundamentals.

In fact, there could be two companies on the horizon through 2030 that analysts believe will outperform Palantir $PLTR - Snowflake $SNOW and CrowdStrike $CRWD.

Comparison of revenue growth

The main argument for Snowflake and CrowdStrike is their revenue growth rates. Although Palantir offers sophisticated AI software, its Q3 revenue growth was 30% year-over-year, comparable to Snowflake's 28% and CrowdStrike's 29%.

However, looking at the longer term, the situation is not so favorable for Palantir. Over the past three years, Palantir has achieved cumulative revenue growth of 61%, while Snowflake has grown 180% and CrowdStrike 158%. These figures suggest that Snowflake and CrowdStrike have more growth potential in the future.

The importance of profitability

Palantir has one key advantage, however - it is the only solidly profitable company of the trio. While Snowflake and CrowdStrike struggle to achieve profitability, Palantir regularly shows profits. This factor likely contributes to its high stock price, which is valued at 61 times annual revenue.

In 2022, for example, Palantir's loss margin was 38%, but by the end of that year the company was able to get to zero and has been improving its profitability ever since. If Snowflake and CrowdStrike can similarly improve their performance, they could overtake Palantir by 2030.

Share value and future prospects

Palantir's current valuation of $160 billion and its high P/E (price-to-earnings) ratio suggest that investors expect it to maintain high growth and profitability. However, if Palantir does not accelerate its growth, its valuation may decline in the future. In contrast, Snowflake and CrowdStrike have lower market valuations and could offer higher returns if profitable.

Under current conditions, Snowflake and CrowdStrike would trade at lower P/E ratios if they achieved similar profit margins to Palantir. This shows that their shares are attractive from a valuation perspective and have room to grow.
